Microchip Connect is a 100% fully automatic pet microchip and Smart Tag registration process. You implant the microchip and it is automatically registered with the owner whilst they are still in your consulting room, along with the Smart Tag already paired to that microchip.
Every microchip pack is supplied with a Smart Tag already paired to it, so the practice never has to scan, enter or handle a tag number. When you supply a microchip to a veterinary practice, Microchip Connect records that allocation and when the chip is later implanted, Microchip Connect recognises where that individual microchip came from and looks to register it first on the database associated with the supplying company. Database Company A sends the microchip, paired Smart Tag and practice allocation to Microchip Connect via the API.

Microchip Connect records the chip, its paired Smart Tag, supplying company, receiving practice and associated database.
Implantation & Recognition

Green Vets implants microchip 900123456789001 and records it in the pet's PMS record. Nothing extra is done for the Smart Tag.

Microchip Connect recognises the exact 15-digit microchip number and the Smart Tag paired to it.

Supply Matched
Microchip Connect matches the chip and its paired Smart Tag to Database Company A's recorded supply allocation.
Database & Customer Acceptance

Registration Transmitted
Keeper, pet, microchip, paired Smart Tag and implantation information is securely transmitted first to Database Company A.

Customer Acceptance
The customer receives a request from the destination Microchip Database to accept the microchip and Smart Tag registration.

Customer Accepts
The customer confirms that they accept the registration and their details being held by that Microchip Database.
Registration Complete

Account Created or Updated
The Microchip Database creates the customer's account or adds the registration to an existing account.

Microchip Registered
The pet, microchip and its paired Smart Tag are registered to the customer on the destination Microchip Database.

Registration Confirmed
The customer receives confirmation and access to their account, and is shown the Smart Tag already paired to their microchip to activate now or later. Microchip Connect records the registration status.
The Microchip is in Control
Microchip Connect identifies the microchip's recorded supply provenance and transmits the registration information to the associated Microchip Database.
The destination database remains responsible for customer acceptance, account creation and the final registration of the microchip. Individual Microchip Databases may follow their own customer acceptance and account creation procedures.
Microchip Connect does not choose a database.
It recognises where the individual microchip was supplied from and looks to register it first on the database associated with that supply allocation.
